报告题目:Numerical methods for efficient fluid and kinetic plasma simulations

In this talk I will provide an introduction to concept of specific numerical difficulties related to plasma physics. First, the issue related to the multi-scale nature of plasma physics will be addressed in the framework of asymptotic preserving methods with a particular emphasis on elliptic anisotropic equation arising in fluid plasma physics. Second, the principles of Sparse-PIC methods will be outlined for 3D-3V simulation of kinetic plasma descriptions. These methods have been recently introduced to alleviate the considerable computational cost of kinetic plasma simulation. The gains brought by this new class of discretizations will be illustrated thanks to numerous benchmarks.
